Status of Universal port

Hello All,

I've downloaded wxPython-src-2.8.7.1 and tried to run '/configure
--enable-universal --disable-gtktest' but I'm always getting :

checking for GTK+ - version >= 2.0.0... no
*** Could not run GTK+ test program, checking why...
*** The test program failed to compile or link. See the file config.log for the
*** exact error that occured. This usually means GTK+ is incorrectly installed.

Can I use Universal port with wxpython or is GTK my only option? What is the
status of the universal port?
