OTOH, without packages I probably would never have tried wxPython,  
which means I wouldn't have gotten around to contributing either, so  
in time you could actually get more time back by making  
packages... ;-) Making releases is IMHO one of the biggest things you  
can do to get more help on the project and grow your community.  
(Though having said that, I have to admit that I still have not  
figured out Linux packaging...)
