Building daily/weekly/monthly calendar control

I'd like to build some calendar controls for my planner app. 

The purpose of these calendars is similar to the ones found in MS 
Outlook, Evolution or Chandler in that a user should be able to drag and 
drop items into a cell to create appointments of specified types (using 
popup menu on drop).

Has anyone done it before using wxPython or could offer me some clues on 
how to go about building them?
