[wxPython-users] Why wxaddons?

It's inertia, Kevin. I'm one of the folks that thought it was a great 
idea, but haven't made any effort to figure out how to use it. Sorry 
about that. FloatCanvas is already in wx.lib, though I've been really 
bad about maintaining it there, and you're right, being restricted to 
the wxPython release cycle was an issue.

There is now also Robin's 3rd party SVN:

So where should I put FloatCanvas now? Is wxAddOns a failed project, or 
one that still needs to get going?
