Generally a couple minutes, maybe a couple hours? If it results
in a contract worth tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars, it could
take weeks or months as far as employers making the software are
concerned.

I think I understand what you are getting at but that isn't always
the case. Often customers don't want to spend the TIME upgrading
all of their systems, they want a solution that works on what
they have. They will happily spend tens of thousands of dollars on
custom software, but they don't want to do any work for it, including
upgrading their machines, which in some cases could be hundreds.

As to your argument that WMe is very old...well, I think
we both know that is kind of silly as wx also supports W95 like
you mention.

>but if Microsoft dont support WinME, why me?

First of all, it sounds like you are saying you should follow suit
with what Microsoft does, after you just recommended Linux to
everyone. I think we both know if you base your decisions on what
Microsoft does, you will have more issues than the ones you started
with :)

But why you? I don't know your application. Why me? Because it gets
us customers. From my previous email: "You would probably lose
customers and money, and they would find someone else who WILL
support them."

Yes, you have a good point that the problem isn't the application, it
is probably the OS which should be upgraded. But responding to someone
asking for help with "upgrade your OS" is probably not helpful, and
in many cases not even possible because it isn't "their" OS. If it is
a serious issue should it be recommended that the customer upgrade?
Sure, of course, you are right, but you can't force anyone do it. That
is really my only point here, which I offer just to share my personal
opinion. If you have an issue on some application you are writing for
yourself and upgrading an OS would fix it, great, upgrade your OS. But
for the plethora of reasons listed above, it can be a losing
proposition in certain cases, and it could be much more profitable to
support the customer instead of abandoning them if they won't change.
