3 state checkbox in customtreectrl

First, thanks to Andrea for the customtreectrl widget!

I see mention of a 3-state checkbox in the TODO list (and a question if
that's really useful).  I'd very much like to have such a thing, and
before going ahead and trampling over the code, I'm wondering if anyone
already has done this, or has partially implemented it.
