Recommendations for IDE

Hi,

I have been trying some IDEs/editors and but always came back to emacs pretty soon.
All editors written with wxPython and using the stc are unfortunately just too
slow (vertical scrolling) to work with on linux.
Another thing which I don't want to miss is emacs's way of handling the tab-key:
pressing it anywhere on the line will ident that line correctly instead of just
inserting a tab. Would this be complicated to be added to stc or to the editors
using it?
