you really should be able to use matplotlib with the wx back-end under 
PyCrust. I've never tried it, but I expect that pylab wont' work, as it 
will try to create a new wxApp.

However, if you were to use wxMpl, you could probably pop up an MPL 
Frame pretty easily from Pycrust.

Maybe I'll give that a try some day...
