Yes, it is, and I've only just started using it, but it has some serious 
advantages over the plain shell.

It also has some nice integration with matplotlib.

I'd say:

If you want to use it to test wxPython stuff, use PyCrust, if you want 
to use it matplotlib, use ipython.

You know, ipython inside pyCrust could be pretty nice!
