I think this is a very cool idea -- I"d love to have something like 
Eclipse that I could hack on without having to deal with JAVA.

Be sure to talk to Stani (of SPE fame), and the group he put together of 
folks collaborating on a merged Python IDE. I don't know if that project 
is going anywhere, but if it is, it would be nice to join forces.

Stani's web site seems to be down at the moment.
