Exactly. Sorry to rant here, but I've seen this so much in open source 
projects, it really drives me crazy.

One of the POINTS of open source is that you can take an existing 
project that is "not exactly what [you] need", and add or change that 
bit that isn't exactly right. You can then contribute your changes back 
to the project, or, if the project maintainers have a differing vision, 
maintain a fork.

This makes so much more sense than saying "it's not exactly what I need, 
so I guess I'll start from scratch and make something slightly 
different". That's how we end up with so many wxPython based text 
editors, for example!
