The problem with a lot of recipes out there are that they are for older 
versions of matplotlib.

While I am not that technical nor a matplotlib expert and posted during 
the last two weeks some setup.py for examples (simple_py.plot and 
embeddin_in_wx4.py) provided with matplotlib on the matplotlib list.

Did you try any of these?  If yes what were your problems with them?
