Having written FloatCanvas, I can say: maybe. I have put a bunch of time 
into making it work well for this sort of thing (if you're doing what I 
think you are).

However, if, in addition to animation, you want the ability to zoom, 
pan, click on objects, etc, then it could be a great help.
