How to update window ?

Hi

I'm a Python and wxPython newbie and this in my first project using it 
so please don't fry me if it is a silly question. I'm working on a 
backup app. I have everything working as i want but for one thing. While 
it's doing heavy fileoperation and compression and the window looses 
focus it will not update until the program is finnished with this 
operation. In what way can i make it update the window during the 
operation? is there a way to force it to update ... it would be nice for 
it to refresh every second. Have you any hints on how to do this. if you 
wanna se the code pleasde let me know and i mail it ... it is kinda long 
:) I'm working in windows.
