Actually, a "better API" could well mean the one the Dabo has adopted. 
In fact, early in this discussion I suggested that we look at what Dabo, 
Mindwrapper, Wax and PythonCard have done, to get ideas.

Personally, I've been planning on giving Dabo a god look, but have not 
had the chance yet. I surely hope that it (or one of the other mentioned 
above) will become the next generation wxPython API.
