If you use kmail you have the option to sort the messages into a separate
folder and mark that folder as mailing list. That will take care of the
to/from headers automatically - very nice.
And yes, in kmail if you select text in a message and hit reply then you'll
just end up with the quoted text you marked.
I never delete old messages. I just set the auto expire feature on the folder
to a couple of weeks, leading to kmail erasing old messages for me.
