My personal philosophy about tree icons is that they should be small, 
simple, and not get in the way.  They should not be something that you 
have to look at real hard to know what they represent, because they are 
not there to provide details, but a more broad categorization of the 
item.  They will typically only get a quick glance from the user because 
they are more interested in the text of the item.  The tree icons are 
mainly an aid to help the user quickly visually locate kinds of item. 
So if the icons can be easily distinguished from each other based on 
simple shape and color differences then they have done their job.
