a quick search of the wx-dev mailing lists http://news.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lib.wxwidgets.devel 
  for debian will, I think show that debian maintenance has been a  
problem which we have yet to resolve; if you are in a position to help  
with restoring wx to the debian stable release, we will be very pleased
