WxWidgets 2.8.7 Borland fails compiling stc library

No, there was a problem with the 5.6.x include files supplied by  
Borland, which was not present in 5.5. i think Vadim argued we should  
keep support for 5.5.1 because it was a free, relatively small and  
easy download,

It has a very poor debugger. I'd say only use 5.8

the 2.8.7 problem is related to the STL - (IIRC) Borland changed their  
provider between 5.5 and 5.6 and 5.6 and 5.8

The head problems are mostly related to the use of templates

No, i would expect them to be incompatible; the headers are different  
and the linker ...
(My thoughts on the linkers after 5.4 are not for the public record. I  
don't think codegear have even looked at the bug report since last  
April http://qc.codegear.com/wc/qcmain.aspx?d=44402 though a Borland
