Instructions needed for multiple document application

Hi!

I am looking for instructions or an example project on a document  
editor that allows several windows (or application instances) open  
without the mdi desktop, for MacOX, WinXP and Linux.
As far as I can see, the wxwidgets samples does not include such an  
application, docview, docvwmdi, and wx edit is either based on the  
mdi desktop top frame or is single window editors.
Can somebody advice me on what to read, or where to find an example  
project to study?
Or is there a simple answer on how to modify the samples?
