Inheriting wxDocManager

Whats the preferred method of overriding wxDocManager's classes?
Specifically, I'm looking to write an SDI Document/View application, but I
want to keep the Parent Frame hidden (as it serves no useful purpose). The
problem is catching certain events, such as closing the last open document
to exit the app, or opening a document and removing an unused child frame.
