It looks like ignorance of developers of those project, more that 
anything else. I had struggles with various wx-based software, just 
because the developers didn't really develop with cross-platform in mind.

Take for example, our project, FlameRobin. It's a non-trivial program 
(regarding the code size) and it currently compiles and works properly 
on all wx versions since 2.6.0, in both Unicode and ANSI and/or 
debug/release configurations. It even works with Gtk1 version of wx. If 
we were able to follow wx conventions and make it work, others should 
have done the same.
