 You just need to start at a moment when everything compilers -- further
changes on HEAD won't affect the branch. And we definitely don't want to
have compilation errors [even in] HEAD. So maybe before SoC is started we
even could release 2.9.0 "preview of wx3" release and you could branch from
there.

 Again, for me personally there is no doubt that all projects should use
HEAD. Now if any of the mentors decide that they're going to be able to
merge the changes done to 2.8 branch to HEAD later, this could be done too
but IMO it would be at best a waste of time. Merging a big amount of
changes with the cvs is really not much fun.
