 I think that in practice there will be some changes in wx2 to accomodate
wx3 (e.g. at least some forward-compatible stuff) so not touching wx2 at
all is IMHO not an option. And why should we limit ourselves to not
modifying it anyhow?

 I don't think it should be a branch, I think they could/should go into
mainstream wx version.

 But I don't think we can know how do we want to do it before we know what
to do...
