I thought I had seen something about this, I just couldn't find it. :-(
Thanks for the pointer to statbmp.cpp (I've been looking at
bitmap.cpp, image.cpp, imagpng.cpp all the time).

Anyway, backporting that fix to 2.8 would seem like a good idea
to me...
