Sorry, my mistake - Vadim already fixed this 3 months ago 
(http://cvs.wxwidgets.org/viewcvs.cgi/wxWidgets/include/wx/toplevel.h.diff?r1=1.82&r2=1.83).
I was using an older copy of 2.8.

This should be fixed now by disabling automatic exit-on-frame-close in 
the samples and
exiting in idle time instead.
