I can work on patches to removed the WXWIN_COMPATIBILITY_2_4 blocks and
verify that it compiles under windows using minGW GCC (make commands) 
and VS2005.

My testing will experience with wxWidgets is very small, so NOT sure if
I can test it to your standards.
