Actually I don't clearly see "reasons" thing in this thread. If compatibility
is turned on then you can use these flags, if compatibility is off you have
changes.txt describing that the change happened

The problem was that previously book controls had different values for
orientation flags. We wanted to avoid this and iirc that change was result of
your suggestion at:
